Beer-Sheva has its roots in
ancient history.
However, it's current "old city" is relatively new. It was
built in 1900 by the Turks during their rule of
the area. They hoped to entice the nomadic Bedouin tribes of the area
to settle down.
Recently, the municipality has made a pedestrian mall and plaza out of the center of the old city's commercial area. Here is a collection of pictures from around that quaint part of town:
